While many little girls dream of getting married and having a family, I doubt that many think of being a grandmother or ever dream of that happening one day. Having said that, one of my very best friends called me yesterday to say that her baby girl had just given birth to a sweet baby girl of her own. She was now a grandmother!!! My husband and I have known Pat and Larry for over 15 years now. (I have no idea where the times goes) Our daughter used to babysit Katie, the new mother of Emma Laurette, weighing in at 7 lbs 4.6 ozs and 20 inches long. CONGRATULATIONS to Katie and Steve.
Being grandparents is like a "do over". A second chance at life and lots of fun. We don't have all the responsibilities, but instead, we get to have all the fun. No one ever told me just how much fun that would be. It gives new life and hope to all the great holidays, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and all the days in between. The word spoiling does come to mind. I mentioned to Pat that her life as a grandmother is just beginning and holds so many great things to come, lots of secrets to be revealed and the making of some very special memories.
Our children were gifts given to us to cherish and to hold dear. Our grandchildren are icing on the cake, gifts given later in life to be enjoyed and loved. We are always parents, there when called upon and needed, always loving and being there when called to service. It's different with grandchildren, we are on the sidelines looking in, waiting to be invited, waiting to be involved. Lots and lots of love spilling over onto everyone, part of an extended family, what more could anyone ever want or need. The circle of life complete with all it's components, a gift of joy in a sweet little baby girl, looking so much like her mother, and if I might say, a lot like her grandmother too.
Thank you Beverly from How Sweet The Sound for making Pink Saturday possible. Please visit as many participants as possible this week and read what they have been up to. Happy Pink Saturday to all of you.

Oh Char....
You're soooo right! Grandkids ARE icing on the cake. I adore my daughter........LOVED being a mommy (and dreamed of it since I was just a little girl myself)....I wanted more than one...say at least two....but had all kinds of trouble and finally ended up having all the mommy parts removed when I was 27. Since that day I dreamed of being a grandma. I was impatient. Finally, my daughter had my little guy when she was 29....and he's just the BEST thing ever.
Congratulations to your friends....it's a wonderful journey!....and a perfect PINK!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Hugs,
Spencer
HAPPY PINK SATURDAY, Char!
What a sweet, precious little bundle! I L-O-V-E being a grandmother or a "Mo" as I am called. Each are extensions of my darling children and that makes them even more dear!

I have 7 grandchildren, and I do not believe that you can give a child too much love. They bring such happiness.
What a precious Pink Baby!
that is the sweetest pink ever!!!!
This is so lovely my friend! I became a "Nana" to our ONLY grandchild when I was only 43 years old. This little girl has changed my life. Just when I found myself mouring the passing childhood's of my two children, our little Miss K came into the world and turned my life around. Her Papa and I absolutely adore her.
Thank you for the comments on my Cookie Cutter Product. It's been a labor of love...just wait until you see the Christmas Tree...she's darling and I hope you'll love her, too!
Blessings to you...
Love, Rebecca

Oh What a sweet baby! I hope my parents like being Grandparents! My Dad was in the military so I didn't grow up around my Grandparents at all. They are all gone now. I love that other people in my life have stepped into that role for me. Thank You for sharing such a cutie with all of us!

Hello Char, Thanks for welcoming me to PS. What a beautiful wee one. And you're absolutely right as the only thing better than grandchildren is great-grandchildren as it is amazing to watch your own kids as grandparents. Thrilling. You truly have some awesome treasures to behold. I'll be back to visit and will be following your blog. Peace, Mollye
Thank-you for visiting CollectInTexas Gal...today. I enjoyed looking around your blog. Your baskets are wonderful and the Grandmother post is heart warming and so appropriate for me as well...I had a new grandson on 9-9-09. I hope to see you again for the next Pink Saturday...Sue

Hi - I finally got here! The computer crashed, so I had a fair bit of rejigging to do... talk about late! Anyway, Happy Pink Saturday (although it's now Wednesday....)
I am late in visiting all my Pink girlfriends....your babe being a grandparent is just lovely..have a great rest of the week!
God Bless You.....Kandy
Isn't she just precious? I've heard that being a grandparent changes everything. The only one who was a grandparent and my close friend totally changed her retirement plans to stay in Dallas instead of moving to a chic artsy community in New Mexico. At the time I had a teenager and was so ... like... "Why?!" Well, now as an empty nester, I'm starting to get it. And, to have a little girl when I had just a son, oh my. Think of all the pretty things!
Still visiting around for last PS. See you for PS soon.
What a lucky friend you have. Congrats to all. Lovely, lovely photo.
