I have been creating since I was a little girl. I am happy to say that having my own website has opened up a whole new world for me. Trying new mediums is a joy and sometimes a real eye opener. I sell what I create on etsy and my website, someplaceinthyme. If you have questions, please email me at cpeterson72@q.com. I welcome new blog friends and am honored if you find my little piece of heaven interesting enough to follow.

Pink Saturday AND A Tutorial On My Vintage Spindle Tassel

A very long time ago, I bought a large bag of vintage spindles. I was doing a lot of basket weaving and using them for handles and decoration within my baskets. I really don't weave much anymore, just around the holiday season such as Christmas and Easter for my grand children and for friends. Now, what do I do with all these wonderful spindles?? This is what I came up with and I wanted to share this with all of my blogging friends.
I have been using the spindles to keep my lace on, like the one above.
This is what the plain spindle looks like.
I primed and painted, then sealed using modge podge.

There is a hole at the top and this is where I pulled a piece of ribbon thru using a very long doll needle. You have to have a way to hang the tassel and so this is a necessary step. Tie a knot at the inside end or use a small dab of glue so the ribbon does not come out and is secure.

I am sorry if the ribbon is difficult to see. It's cream colored like the painted spindle, but it's there.

Beginning at the bottom of the spindle (the fattest part) begin adding fringes and ribbons, one layer at a time with a hot glue gun. You can make ribbon loops, or use straight pieces. This is all up to you and what you like. There are no rules, simply use what you have and be creative. Add as much or as little as you like.
I like to finish with something special like feathers, eyelash trim or paper roses like you see here. I also added roses at the top of the spindle.

Altho I did not do it here, I love to use beadwork too. These are so fun to make. I hope you try one, you will be hooked.

Look how sweet this looks hanging from a lamp. You can also hang them from keys, armoires, knobs, pegs and hooks. Let your imagination run wide, but make sure to have fun.
This tassel can be found on my website, Someplace in Thyme.
UPDATE: this tassel shown today is now SOLD.

I went thru my home and came up with some pretties that I have made and have on my website as well as my etsy under the name SomeplaceInTime. My etsy can be found on my sidebar. I hope you enjoy these pretty pinks. I have no blooms to share this week, it's getting hot here in the desert and so there is not much out there right now.

Love this baby buggy. Wish I had one like it, wouldn't that be fun?

I love tags and just couldn't resist the booties.....too cute.
I want to thank Beverly from How Sweet The Sound for doing this again. I love all of my pink Saturday friends and I love your comments too. I hope you have a great week and look forward to visiting everyone.

You are so prepared, my dear! Excellent tutorial. I love using a glue gun and certainly have tons of stuff to use up.

What a sweet gift from LuLu!

Mark just returned from a month in Taiwan and me from New Orleans during that time. We are jet lagged and southern lagged and dreaming up things to do as usual.

Wow I love your pink saturday items, but I really enjoyed your tutorial on making a tassle. I can't wait to give it a try and now I know what to attach one to, so perfect to use a vintage spindle. Thank you for visiting and leaving your sweet comment on my Garden Delight Table...it really brought me pleasure to design this table with the garden tool centerpiece! I like trying to do unique displays with flowers; however, I don't think the pictures captured the centerpiece as well as I wished. I wish you where my neighbor too, think of the fun times we could have with all our pretty treasures! Have a wonderful evening!

Happy Pink Saturday Char,
What a beautiful tassel you made from the spindle.
I can certainly say that a person must see your work in person as the pillow I purchased was the most "beautiful" thing I have ever held in my hands, next to my children of course. I think of you every day as I look at it.
Have a lovely weekend

Hi Char Sweetie...
Thank you for stopping by. I would so love to get with you soon. Right now I am still under lock and key. Not allowed outdoors, but am hopeful soon. Would love to get with you when I am released tot he out of doors.

I love your vintage spindle tassels. I too purchased several of these spindles while I was in Maryland visiting. Mine still have wool left on them, but was wanting to remove it and do a little creating. I thank you for the wonderful idea. Maybe when we get together we can make one for me.

I absolutely loved your teddy bear pincushion. You did the most beautiful job with that one. I adore it. Thank you for sharing. When I met my husband 35 years ago, and we had our first child, he sang The Teddy Bear Picnic song over and over, and continued on with each of our 3 kids. He has since sang this same song to each of the 7 (soon to be 8) grandkids.

Well sweetie. You have PT and I have breathing treatments. Yes, we are quite the pair. Hope to see ya soon. I love you girlfriend, Sherry
