Someplace in Thyme

I have been creating since I was a little girl. I am happy to say that having my own website has opened up a whole new world for me. Trying new mediums is a joy and sometimes a real eye opener. I sell what I create on etsy and my website, someplaceinthyme. If you have questions, please email me at cpeterson72@q.com. I welcome new blog friends and am honored if you find my little piece of heaven interesting enough to follow.

The Vintage Alphabet Party Is Here

It's time for the vintage alphabet party at Etsy Cottage Style Blog. If you go HERE you can see all the participants, but if you haven't joined in the fun yet, no worries, it goes all week and there is still time.
I have a pair of vintage jello molds with "bunnies" on them.

How about a "bunny" made with vintage chenille?

Or a "blue" pillow with vintage lace and "buttons?"

GOT MILK? Out Of Site, Out Of Mind AND Tuesday Treasures

Yesterday I had my eyes open. I don't know if sometimes I go thru the day in a fog or a daze, but I usually have so much on my mind, that I can't see what is right in front of me. Then it happened! I saw her!! She was right where I put her years (yes, you read it right, years) ago. In the corner of my work room, on top of the speaker. What in the world was I thinking!? Sadly for her and for me, I wasn't. When she caught me eye, something awoke in me and I knew she needed a new place to stand. But where? She couldn't stay where she was, because I rarely knew she was with us anymore, didn't notice, out of site, out of mind so to speak. Something had to change. But where do I put my sweet bovine now?!
I have a Kiss The Cook sign over my sink in the kitchen. Do you think my sweet cow with pale of cherries looks good here? When we lived in Germany, where she was born, that's where I had her, but I don't know about now. Maybe she's grown, she looks bigger somehow. Is that possible? It's been so long since I have noticed her.......

One day out shopping I spied her from afar and knew that she had to me mine. I am not a cow person.....well, I do drink milk and eat meat.....lets not go there, just look at that sweet face. I couldn't resist and wanted to bring her home with me.

I think she is wood, she is heavy, not resin, but I am not sure of her body makeup. She is old worldly looking, crackle finish, I love that about her. Kind of like me, lines and some body fat, looks like she could use some exercise. Couldn't we all??

Her bucket of cheeries is wood as are the cheeries themselves. I love faux food, never spoils and always looks good enough to eat. It's a great way to diet. You be the judge, I put her on top of the fridge, in the greenery where I can see her everyday, all day. Now she has a place of honor. What do you think?

This is Tuesday Treasures, don't forget to check out all the beautiful things at Shabbylaneshops. You can go HERE and see all the shops that are participating. The theme this week is "Sew Sweet Creations." You can visit my offerings at my shop here: SOMEPLACEINTHYME.

VALENTINE COOKIES AND PINK SATURDAY

I have shared the best sugar cookie recipe in the world with you before, but just in case you missed this, I wanted to repeat it. I hope you will give it a try, it's very good.
I decided to send my husband to work with Valentine cookies for the staff and thought this would be the perfect post for pink saturday as well. Thankyou so much Beverly from How Sweet The Sound for making pink saturday the success it is. Be sure to check out the other blogs for some wonderful posts.
2 cups butter or margarine, softened
1 8oz package cream cheese, softened
2 cups sugar
2 egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 1/2 cups all purpose flour
Cream butter and cream cheese until flight and fluffy. Add sugar, egg yolks and vanilla. Mix well.
Add flour a little at a time, mix well.
Cover and chill 2 hours or until firm.

Roll out onto floured surface to 1/4" thickness. Cut into 3" shapes, place 1" apart on greased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until set, not browned.

You can decorate the tops of your cookies if you like. I used cinnamon and peppermint sugar for these. Do this step before baking.
Cool 5 minutes, remove to wire racks to cool.

Frosting: Combine 1 1/2 cups confectioners sugar, 3 Tablespoons butter, 1 Tablespoons shortening, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract and 3 Tablespoons milk in a mixing bowl. Beat until smooth. Gradually add another 2 cups of confectioners sugar along with more milk as needed for desired consistency. Use food coloring if you wish to add some color to frosting. Yields approx. 7 dozen cookies.

I just love the little mini hearts, so sweet and yummy to eat too. But be careful, when you bake minis, it's so easy to eat lots of them.

This is a great gift of love for someone very lucky. Happy Pink Saturday to everyone and Happy Valentines Day too.

I appreciate each and every one of my blogging buddies and look forward to hearing your comments. Please try this recipe and let me know what you think.

It just doesn't get much better than this!! Be sure to check the post below and sign up for the Shabbylaneshops give a way.

RAIN! The GOOD The BAD And The UGLY

Rain, you know....liquid gold. I think most of us have heard that ugly word: drought, lived it and experienced it too. That is why, no matter how much rain we receive, it just never seems like it's enough. When the rest of the country was having terrible snow storms a couple of weeks ago., (we also received so much snow in the mountains that they had to close down the ski slopes) we were having rain....glorious rain. The picture above shows a paved walking and bike path that runs from our community, through the desert and into other communities. The path is approx. 5 miles round trip. This is what I do on a daily basis for exercise, I ride my bike. On both sides of this path is the Queen Creek Wash. This is where excess rain water travels from one place to another and crosses at this point from one side to the other.
Along the way, you pass this park with play ground equipment and grass. As you can see by the colored lines, this became a pond! We had inches of rain and the desert was full. It just could not drink anymore.

While riding, I often run into some friends. Bunnies, Jackrabbits, Quail and today, Ta Da, a Roadrunner decided to stop and allow me to take his picture.

This is a beautiful path to enjoy some time walking or riding. There is always something beautiful to catch the eye, but on this day, I saw the ugly side of too much rain. I saw the destruction that Mother Nature can unleash on the land. Water has a mind of it's own. It goes where it wants to go, not necessarily where you want it to. The wash was alive and flowed with a strong current, taking everything in it's way. It carved out the path it wanted to flow and created chaos as well as beauty.

The current eroded the soil, sweeping it and depositing it where it desired. What is left behind was ugly and in need of repair. The parks and recreation dept. takes care of the wash and the path. They have their work cut out for them, that's for sure.

Stone fences are down, resting areas are moved because the soil has disappeared.

A section of what was part of the path, is gone, crumbling due to erosion.

You can tell that the wash used to be level with the path. It was never straight across to the other side. The earth had been carved in and out, natural desert, beautiful, but the rain and the currents have carved out a new desert and a new path. I would have loved to have seen it when it was a it's fullest, wet with liquid gold.

Rain water still left, under the road, around a piling. We needed this moisture, I am not complaining, but I am left in awe of the power of running water and how it carves out the earth below.

Still today, you can see the earth can drink no more.

At the same time, you can't ignore the beauty that is left behind. Once a fairly flat surface, not a natural beauty of curves and lines. A gorgeous rippling of the desert dry bed.

It's like beautiful artwork.

I was captivated and had to stare, taking it all in, enjoying how the sun bounced off the curves, the shine of the silt and the shadows that were caught.

Oh yes, rain, we all need it, the earth needs it. There never seems to be enough of it, but as ugly as it can be, as powerful as it can get, it can also be more beautiful than you can imagine.

Hippity Hoppity Easter Is Here And So Is Tuesday Treasures

Ok, you know at the first of the year when we make our New Year's resolutions and we promise ourselves all kinds of things that we don't keep? I usually promise myself that I am going to get into shape and loose weight, yeah, like that has ever worked out for me. Well, this year I made a promise to myself that I would stay in front of the holiday hustle of creating items for my website. No more staying up late when the holiday is here, trying to get things done. No, I am starting early and enjoying the holiday's when they get here. So far.......so good. I am done with Valentine's Day and on with Easter. I love Easter, it's one of my favorite holidays. The promise of spring and all the newness of life. The Resurrection and glory.
Above is a find for sure. I had forgotten that I had these charming and vintage jello molds with bunnies on them. So cute and could be left out all year, great for the Christmas tree too.
I couldn't resist a sweet tassel with a nest and painted wooden egg in it. Just too pretty. I sugared the egg with glass glitter and added some paper roses. I love this.

Easter wouldn't be Easter without a bunny. How about a cottage bunny? She too could be out all year long to enjoy. Vintage chenille hands and feet. I love the vintage chenille on her head and face, pink roses and green leaves.

Spring looks like it's here already in all this pink. Ribbons, roses and bows make up this cottage tassel. Paper roses at the top and bows, pretty fringes too.

How about an image taken from a vintage postcard and transformed onto an Easter pillow. I am loving the nest and eggs.

I came up with the idea of painting the nest white and then sugaring it with some glass glitter, eggs are sugared too.

The wooden eggs painted, sugared and decorated in a sweet wire basket. Easter has nothing on me this year. Still lots to do, but I feel that for once, I am ahead of the curve instead of trying to catch up.

A set of tags, all glittered and ready to go. Altho I have so much more to do, I wanted to take the time to show you that my resolution is working for me just fine. I hope I can keep up the pace and be able to sit back and enjoy the year, maybe learn some new things and enjoy life as it comes.
All these and more can be found on my website, someplaceinthyme.
The theme for Tuesday Treasures is "always be mine." Just click on my website to see what is listed this week.
